I
first became involved in voluntary youth work for the Endeavour
Youth Club in 1984. Initially I provided support to the qualified
youth workers freeing them up from unskilled tasks
by running the tuck shop or supervising an activity. The Endeavour
provides a place where young people can meet up with their
friends in a safe and friendly environment, but where antisocial
behaviour is challenged. Whats kept me doing it for
so many years? I have made many friends and still enjoy the
buzz of doing something different thats making a positive
contribution. But the best reward is when an ex-member drops
by and says thank you, although I didnt realise
it at the time, if it wasnt for the Endeavour I would
have ended up in prison or on drugs.
